Polly

February, 2021 — It is with great sadness that we share the news of Polly’s passing on the 19th of February after having lived happily for approximately 18 years on the UTSA campus. Polly started showing some signs of potential health issues before disappearing for a week on January 5, 2021. Then, she started showing up in the evenings briefly for a few days but was not eating anything. Her feeder was able to bring her home on the 16th to get her checked in with a veterinarian. She was extremely dehydrated, weighing only 5.2 pounds, so her test results may have not been reflective of her then current state of health. Two weeks later, she was diagnosed with urinary track infection and her health kept declining. Within a week, her UTI was under control but her creatinine level had gone up, indicating stage 4 kidney failure. She became very tired and it was time to let her go peacefully on the 19th. We are very thankful that she stayed warm indoors and was cared for and loved towards the end of her life as we had experienced the unprecedented cold weather conditions.

Polly has been here since the beginning – we estimate she is about 18 years old which for a totally outside cat is nothing short of a miracle! She had so many adventures over her life – she had many kittens including her beautiful son, Maxwell, before we were able to get her spayed, was shot in the head with a dart and ran around several days with it dangling off her head, ran back and forth in the wall by Chile’s before it was walled up – then got trapped inside the wall multiple times before it was finally totally sealed off – we were constantly monitoring the wall and calling facilities to come get Polly out of the wall….those were good times! We miss and love you, Polly! Rest in Peace…

Polly (born in approx. 2003) is a beautiful fluffy, muted calico – she is very shy although you can occasionally see her around the UC area. She used to hang out with her son Maxwell and her buddies, Pumpkin and Sammie. Now that they are gone, she hangs out with Speedy in the UC/Tunnel area.
